Notre Dame Football: National and Super Bowl Champs

As we sit just days away from the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers strapping up to hoist the Lombardi Trophy, we’ll be having some sporatic fun here at Fighting Irish Wire in terms of former Notre Dame players and coaches who have had an impact on “The Big Game”.

Chances are if you’re at all a football historian that you’re well-aware of Dave Casper’s career.  Are you familiar with the other Notre Dame player that was on those great Raiders teams however?

Steve Sylvester played on the 1973 Notre Dame offensive line and helped them win the national championship.  He then went on to play nine seasons in the NFL, all with the Raiders and was a winner in Super Bowls IX, XV and XVIII.

Sylvester went in the tenth round of the 1975 NFL Draft.
