Tuesday’s Notre Dame-Virginia game won’t be memorable for offensive enthusiasts. However, the Irish (15-9, 6-7) will remember this as another missed opportunity in a season that’s been full of them. There’s no other to describe this 50-49 overtime loss to the Cavaliers (16-7, 8-5).

The Irish had more than enough chances to close a game they led for the majority of the time. They were outscored, 3-2, in the extra session, which meant there was no room for error as each play could make or break both teams’ fates. It ended when Rex Pflueger missed a corner 3 in the final seconds, and the Irish were unable to get a second chance in what little time would have been left.

In a game as low-scoring as this one, it shouldn’t be surprising that Prentiss Hubb’s 12 points were the most of any Notre Dame player. John Mooney achieved his latest double-double of 11 points and 14 rebounds, and Nate Laszewski scored 11 off the bench.
