North Carolina still holds No. 1 seed going into Selection Sunday

The UNC basketball program stayed put in Joe Lunardi’s updated Bracketology following a loss to NC State on Saturday.

The Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament didn’t end as the North Carolina Tar Heels had hoped for, losing to NC State in the title game. But the bigger picture is cutting down the nets in Phoenix this April.

With the ACC Tournament over, the focus shifts to Selection Sunday and what seed and where the Tar Heels will be. Despite the loss, there’s some good news for UNC as ESPN’s Joe Lunardi has the Tar Heels as a No. 1 seed going into Sunday.

Lunardi has the Tar Heels as the No. 1 seed in the West Region, the fourth-best team in the field. They have been there for two days now and stay there despite Iowa State blowing out Houston.

Tennessee and Arizona both losing early in their conference tournaments helped out big time. Iowa State won the Big 12 title but only moved up a little bit to the No. 7 overall seed per Lunardi.

We will have to see if the committee agrees with Lunardi when its time to release the bracket on Sunday.
