As we enter the holiday season it’s time to acknowledge the darker side of the St. Nicholas story. In many European counties, Krampus Day is celebrated on the evening of December 5, as a lead in to the Feast of St. Nick, which is celebrated on the 6th.
On Krampusnacht, St. Nick and a demon known as Krampus circle the earth. Good children receive gifts from Nicholas, while bad children are given lashes by the Krampus. Really bad children are taken away in Krampus’ basket.
Those who have followed me across the web know that I mix the Krampus story into the holidays, by asking readers for nominations from the Cowboys organization, players and staff. Which deserve St. Nick’s gifts? Who’s been really really good?
On the flip side, which need a thrashing from the Krampus? Which are so wicked they deserve to be carried away, not to be seen again?
And let’s make this clear. Jerry Jones cannot be nominated for Krampus’ ire. As I see it, Jones IS the Cowboys Krampus.
Put your nominations in the comments.
