No. 4 Notre Dame 12, Louisville 7: 5 Instant Takeaways

It wasn’t the prettiest of performances but it was good enough to get Notre Dame to 4-0 for the first time since 2018.

4.  Onside Technicalities Help Irish

After giving up the lead to Louisville early in the second half and trailing 7-6, Notre Dame was surprised by an onside kick that the Cardinals recovered, only to have it overturned due to a Louisville player engaging a Notre Dame player within ten yards of the kick.

The play being overturned gave the Notre Dame offense the ball instead and they responded by a touchdown drive that immediately put the Irish back in front 12-7, the eventual final score.

The official rules reads: No Team A player may block an opponent until Team A is eligible to touch a free-kicked ball.

Boy are the Notre Dame faithful happy for that.
