No. 2 Lady Vols softball run-rules UT Arlington in season opener.

No. 2 Tennessee opened its 2024 season on Thursday.

The Lady Vols (1-0) defeated UT Arlington (0-1), 15-0, at Allan Saxe Field in Arlington, Texas.

Tennessee recorded 13 hits in the contest. Sophia Nugent and Rylie West hit home runs for the Lady Vols.

Nugent led Tennessee in RBIs with four.

Payton Gottshall (1-0) started and pitched four innings against UT Arlington. She recorded seven strikeouts and zero walks, while totaling 66 pitches against 14 batters.

Tennessee now leads the all time series versus UT Arlington, 3-0.

Karen Weekly is in her 23rd season as the Lady Vols’ head coach. Tennessee finished the 2023 campaign with a 51-10 record and won the Southeastern Conference regular-season and tournament championships. The Lady Vols also advanced to the College World Series last season.
