No. 1 Tennessee-Tennessee Tech to play with wood bats at Smokies Stadium

No. 1 Tennessee-Tennessee Tech baseball to play with wood bats at Smokies Stadium.

No. 1 Tennessee (31-1, 12-0 SEC) will play Tennessee Tech (17-12, 2-4 OVC) Tuesday at Smokies Stadium in Kodak, Tennessee.

Smokies Stadium is home of the Chicago Cubs’ Double-A affiliate Tennessee Smokies.

First pitch between Tennessee and the Golden Eagles is slated for 6:30 p.m. EDT. SEC Network+ will televise the nonconference neutral site matchup.

Tuesday’s game will be played with wood bats. The contest will mark the first time Tennessee has played any game with wood bats in recent memory.

The Vols and Smokies played an exhibition game on April 4, 2006, which is believed to be the last time Tennessee used wood bats in a contest.

Tennessee enters Tuesday’s contest with a program record 23-game win streak. A victory for Tennessee on Tuesday would tie 2015 Texas A&M for the most consecutive wins by any SEC team in a single season with 24.
