No. 1 Tennessee launches past Notre Dame to force decisive game three

Well they aren’t ranked No. 1 for nothing. Woof.

Notre Dame’s bats were alive early and often Friday night in their game one victory in the Knoxville Super Regional as they got by No. 1 Tennessee to take a 1-0 series lead.  It’s safe to say Saturday didn’t go nearly as well for the Irish as they surrendered four home runs to the Volunteers in the fifth inning, a frame Tennessee plated eight runs in, in what wound up a 12-4 victory for the Vols.

First baseman Luc Lipcius hit a solo home run to start the Vols scoring in the fifth and added a three-run home run to stretch the lead to 9-0 later in the frame.

Notre Dame ace John Michael Bertrand was solid for the first four innings before allowing three of those fifth inning home runs.  He gave up six runs and eight hits in total.

The two now meet with a winner-take-all game three that is set for 1 p.m. ET Sunday in Knoxville and can be seen on ESPN.
