No. 1 Tennessee defeats Norfolk State ahead of opening SEC play

Tennessee basketball remains unbeaten during the 2024-25 season after defeating Norfolk State.

No. 1 Tennessee (13-0) remains undefeated during the 2024-25 college basketball regular season. Rankings reflect the USA TODAY Sports Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll. Tennessee is ranked No. 1 for a fourth consecutive week.

The Vols defeated Norfolk State (9-7), 52-41, on Tuesday at Food City Center. Tuesday’s contest was the final game for Tennessee in 2024.

Tennessee led the Spartans, 35-28, at halftime. Chaz Lanier scored 14 of his team-high 24 points during the first half for the Vols.

Zakai Zeigler led the Vols in assists (6), while Igor Milicic Jr. was Tennessee’s leader in rebounds (10).

Cade Phillips recorded five blocks and 10 points in Tennessee’s win.

Tennessee will open SEC play versus Arkansas on Saturday at Food City Center. Tipoff between the Vols and Razorbacks is slated for 1 p.m. EST and the contest will be televised by ESPN.
