No. 1 2022 QB, Oklahoma target Quinn Ewers commits to Texas

Lincoln Riley can’t have them all. After landing the No. 1 quarterback in 2021, the No. 1 quarterback in 2022 spurns Oklahoma for Texas.

Lincoln Riley can’t have them all.

Oklahoma currently has the No. 1 quarterback in the 2021 recruiting class committed in Caleb Williams. The Sooners nabbed the No. 1 quarterback in the 2019 recruiting class in Spencer Rattler. Those two affected the outcomes of the top quarterbacks following them.

Bryce Young was a major target in the 2020 recruiting class for Oklahoma. Young eventually signed with Alabama and finished as the top quarterback in that class. All signs pointed towards him being a Sooner, but the idea of sitting behind Rattler made him look another direction.

The same can be said for 2022, as No. 1 quarterback Quinn Ewers committed to Texas on Friday night.

Oklahoma was in the thick of it for Ewers, but after Williams’ commitment on July 4, things started trending in the other direction.

It makes sense in the transfer portal era. Getting your hands on a top quarterback is priority No. 1 for the best programs in college football and most know they will only get three years of an elite quarterback.

Riley has only one more offer out to another quarterback in the 2022 recruiting class in Ty Simpson. In the year sandwiched between Rattler and Williams, Oklahoma landed Chandler Morris—a three-star quarterback from the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area.
