Nick Sirianni confirms Eagles are ‘trending’ in the direction of hiring Matt Patricia for defensive role

Philadelphia head coach Nick Sirianni says he’s spoken with Darius Slay and all parties involved as the Eagles work toward hiring Matt Patricia to a role on the staff

The move hasn’t been confirmed, and that may be why his name was redacted, but Matt Patricia is “trending” towards joining the Eagles coaching staff.

Philadelphia head coach Nick Sirianni confirmed the move after the team’s official site reported, and then deleted the former Patriots assistant and Lions head coach as a new addition to the staff.

The controversy stems from Patricia clashing with All-Pro cornerback Darius Slay and playing a considerable role in Philadelphia acquiring the cornerback via trade.

Patricia returned to the Patriots in 2021 and assumed the offensive coordinator role in 2022.

The Eagles hired Sean Desai to serve as defensive coordinator following the departure of Jonathan Gannon, who is now the head coach of the Cardinals, and a complete defensive overhaul could be in play.

Patricia will assume a Senior defensive assistant role if hired, and we’ll likely be far away from Slay during meetings and practices.
