Nick Kyrgios pulls out of U.S. Open, rips other tennis players in Instagram video

“We can rebuild our sport and the economy,” Kyrgios says in the video, “but we can never recover lives lost.”

Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios posted a video to the Uninterrupted Instagram account on Saturday in which he announced that he would be pulling out of the U.S. Open, citing concerns for safety with the global COVID-19 pandemic.

“We can rebuild our sport and the economy,” Kyrgios says in the video, “but we can never recover lives lost.”

Kyrgios goes on in the video to speak out harshly against other tennis players who have seemed to flout quarantine, playing in exhibitions and getting caught partying in Europe.

He chastised players for “dancing on tables, money grabbing your way around Europe, trying to make a quick buck hosting an exhibition.”
