Niall Horan’s Modest! Golf partners with R&A to increase youth involvement in golf

Former One Direction member Niall Horan and Modest! Golf have partnered with the R&A to encourage youth involvement in the sport.

Niall Horan’s Modest! Golf has partnered with the R&A to create programs aimed at providing opportunities for young people to experience golf.

The new programs, which are expected to launch later this year, plan to present the game in “fun and accessible formats” which line up with the interests of younger generations. Strategies include using influencers from the sports and entertainment worlds and challenging negative perceptions and stereotypes surrounding the game.

Horan, who founded Modest! Golf in 2016, has been playing golf as long as he can remember and has developed a passion for the game he hopes to relay to younger generations.

“I am so proud to work alongside the R&A in developing programs to encourage and inspire more young people to play the game of golf,” Horan said in a statement. “It is something my company Modest! Golf is hugely passionate about … the R&A has a long legacy within the game and I look forward to helping to create new and modern initiatives to showcase to the younger generation just what a great sport golf is.”

Modest! Golf represents professional golfers including Tyrrell Hatton, world top 5 disability golfer Brendan Lawlor and Olivia Cowan.

“Our relationship with Modest! Golf is built on a shared ambition for golf to be viewed as a fun, friendly and accessible sport that is inclusive of all people no matter their age, gender, ability or background,” Phil Anderton, Chief Development Officer at the R&A, said. “We look forward to working together to broaden its appeal through our networks in golf and encourage young people to enjoy its many social and health benefits.”
