NFL.com tabs Leslie Frazier, Brian Daboll head coach candidates

Buffalo Bills coordinators Brian Daboll, Leslie Frazier are head coach candidates per NFL.com.

NFL.com got a head start on next Monday.

That date on the NFL’s unofficial calendar is called “Black Monday.” That’s when teams who are expected to fire their head coaches, do so.

Each year there’s always multiple vacant spots. The league has been in “win now” mode for many years. Head coaches sometimes only get one season to prove their worth.

But with vacancies come hirings. Could other NFL’s poach the Bills’ coaching staff for their next bench boss? Yes, says the league’s website.

Both Buffalo coordinators, Leslie Frazier on defense and Brian Daboll on the offensive side, were named by the outlet.

Here’s why on Frazier:

The former Vikings coach (he went 21-32-1 with one playoff trip from 2010 to ’13) is once again in charge of a top-notch unit, helping the Bills reach the playoffs. Frazier has a talent for getting the best from people in the toughest situations. Interviewing with the Colts two years ago got him back in the game, and that interest could increase this year.

And now Daboll’s explanation:

Few can beat Daboll’s resume, which includes five Super Bowl rings over two stints as a Patriots assistant plus a national title on Nick Saban’s staff on Alabama. Now, Daboll is grooming young QB Josh Allen, who has been a breakout star for the playoff-bound Bills.

Frazier, 60, was mentioned under the “former head coach” section, having previously led the Minnesota Vikings, and successfully, too. He got them into the playoffs, after all.

Daboll, the younger option at 44, has a pedigree with the Patriots and now with the Bills where… he has Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen looking pretty good from Year 1 to Year 2 under his watch.

If either of these two do get interviewed and potentially hired, it will leave a big void for the Bills to fill, perhaps on internal promotion could be in the works. But NFL teams always allow their coaches to be interviewed for promotions, and the Bills would do the same for Frazier and Daboll.

But first, the playoffs.
