The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are going to have to face the music sooner or later when it comes to their quarterback Jameis Winston. The much-maligned QB had one of the more memorable seasons in NFL history in 2019, throwing for 5,109 yards to go along with 33 touchdowns and 30 interceptions.
Given that Winston played the 2019 season on the fifth-year option of his rookie contract, Tampa Bay is under no financial obligation to bring him back in 2020. In fact, rumors have been swirling that the Bucs could look to draft a rookie quarterback with the 14th pick in April’s draft, or, bring in one of the many veterans that will be on the open market this offseason.
So, where does Winston’s 2019 season rank among all 57 quarterbacks to start at least one game last year? NFL.com’s group of analysts came up with their own QB ranking, and Winston found himself at No. 22.
Per Dan Parr:
“There’s one player in NFL history who has thrown 30 TD passes and 30 INTs in a season. His name is Jameis Winston. The pending free agent continues to strike a truly singular balance between dazzling and horrifying play.”
Winston is basically the Thanos of NFL quarterbacks — everything is perfectly balanced.
For what it’s worth, the QB ahead of Winston on the list at No. 21 is Philip Rivers, who has been linked to the Bucs now that his time with the Los Angeles Chargers is officially over.
