A 28-22 loss to the Washington Commanders didn’t put the Jacksonville Jaguars in much of a hole in the AFC South. No team in the division managed to win its opener Sunday.
Both the Jaguars and the Tennessee Titans lost to NFC East teams, as the latter dropped a late afternoon game against the New York Giants.
The Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans played for 70 minutes before settling for a 20-20 tie.
Now, after the first week of the season, the Colts and Texans are atop the division standings with matching 0-0-1 records, while the Titans and Jaguars are just behind at 0-1.
The AFC South has a chance to be topped in futility by the NFC West, though. The Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Rams, and San Francisco 49ers all lost and the Seattle Seahawks face a tough matchup Monday night against the Russell Wilson-led Denver Broncos.
On the other end of the spectrum, the NFC East is a Dallas Cowboys win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers away from starting the season with four 1-0 records.
