NFL officially sets 2022 salary cap at $208.2 million

The NFL has set the 2022 salary cap at $208.2 million.

One of the more anticipated announcements every year just before the NFL’s new league year begins is the league’s official salary-cap figure.

On Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported the NFL would set the 2022 salary cap at $208.2 million. The new league year begins next week on Wednesday, March 16. The legal tampering period opens at Noon ET on Monday, March 14.

This year’s number represents a huge jump from last season when the cap was $182.5 million. The cap was reduced last season due to COVID-19. The salary cap was set at $198.2 million in 2020.

The $208.2 million figure was expected for some time, or numbers close to the final figure.

Per Over the Cap, the Washington Commanders currently have just over $33 million available in cap space for the 2022 season.
