Once upon a time, the Bills converted Jason Peters from an undrafted rookie tight end to offensive lineman. Now Peters, more than a decade later, has cashed in on that once again.
The Philadelphia Eagles are re-signing left tackle Jason Peters and will play him at right guard.
Eagles Wire broke down the re-signing:
The free-agent left tackle let it be known last season that he would play guard to extend his career and he’s still one of the most athletic players in the game regardless of position. Peters’ strength, technique, and versatility along with vast experience could allow such a move to make sense.
By adding the athletic and talented Peters at right guard, it allows Andre Dillard to keep developing as a tackle, while Matt Pryor can continue to play a hybrid role or move to right guard if Peters can’t successfully make the move.
The Bills traded Peters to the Eagles all the way back in 2009. The now 38-year-old wanted a new contract, one he got from the Birds back in the day, on top of another he’s now signed with Philly. Though Peters did earn two All-Pro selections with the Eagles and several Pro Bowls in his career, including with the Bills, Buffalo did make out decently in that trade.
The Bills landed the Eagles’ first-round pick at the ensuing NFL Draft, which Buffalo used to select center Eric Wood 28th overall. Both players went onto become staples in their respective offensive lines, so close to a win-win here.
