The Buffalo Bills have the San Francisco 49ers defense on their schedule later this season, but that daunting task just got significantly easier following some huge injury news.
The 49ers announced on Monday that last season’s Defensive Rookie of the Year, pass rusher Nick Bosa, tore his ACL. His season is done. The Bills are scheduled to visit the 49ers in Week 13 for a Monday Night Football contest.
Bosa had nine sacks and a forced fumble last season.
Per Niners Wire, Bosa’s knee got twisted around when he got blocked on a run play and he was carted off. In addition, another defensive lineman, Soloman Thomas, was also carted off in Week 2 and also tore an ACL. Season = over as well. In response, free agent defensive end Ziggy Ansah has since signed with the 49ers as a replacement.
The 49ers are among the most injury-struck teams in the league early this year. In Week 2 alone, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and running back Rheem Mostert also went down with injury, but they’ll only be out a few weeks.
Prior to their second game against the Jets on Sunday, the 49ers entered the game without tight end George Kittle, defensive lineman Dee Ford, cornerback Richard Sherman and wide receiver Deebo Samuel, all due to injury.
The 49ers still handled the Jets easily for the win and San Francisco is 1-1 this season.
