NFL insider predicts Patriots could suffer fate like Cowboys

Are the Patriots destined to repeat the same mistakes as the Cowboys?

Could the New England Patriots end up being the next version of the Dallas Cowboys? A veteran coach floated a possible scenario the Patriots hope to avoid.

New England has yet to name a general manager, and reportedly, they are in no rush to do so. Ownership has their chance to really put a stamp on the team, especially with Bill Belichick no longer controlling the decisions of the organization in terms of personnel.

This certainly draws parallels with the Dallas Cowboys. Owner Jerry Jones is very active with how the franchise runs, and it has been that way for the last couple of decades. Unfortunately, playoff success has not followed for the organization.

The Athletic’s Mike Sando broke this scenario down in a column he published on Monday.

Sando wrote:

“There is one guy who has been doing it for 20 years, and now everyone has got their say, and it has the potential to be Dallas all over again,” a veteran coach said. “The owner has been held back for 20 years. He is going to be involved. His son is going to want to be involved. It will be interesting if they tell the coach it was Bill’s fault with Mac Jones and he can play and we gotta get him right.”

It’s definitely an interesting parallel, given how hands-on Robert Kraft seems to be in the early going. One has to wonder if this is going to be a continuous theme, or if this will lessen once things get settled for the organization.

Either way, there’s no question that a changing of the guard has occurred in New England.
