Buffalo Bills linebacker Andre Smith was fined $5,806 this week for a hit he laid in Week 2 of the preseason vs. the Chicago Bears, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero:
The NFL fined #Bills LB Andre Smith $5,806 for the high hit that knocked off #Bears rookie QB Justin Fields’ helmet in the fourth quarter of last week’s preseason game.

Bears quarterback Justin Fields did not recognize Smith blitzing at him off the edge to his right. Fields looked to his left after the snap and never back to his right and that’s when Smith connected with him.
Fields’ helmet went flying off his head on the play (although, he doesn’t full strap it on), and Smith apologized after the game via social media.
Evidently, the NFL didn’t think that was enough and the league hit Smith with the fine.
