The Las Vegas Raiders’ Twitter/X account and the Las Vegas Raiders professional football team operate separately from one another. The football team is out there trying to win games, and the social accounts are ways to engage with the fanbase. But it’s always funny when the normal tasks of a social media manager have incredibly awkward timing.
That’s what happened to the Raiders’ social accounts on Thursday.
One day after we learned that the Raiders were going to bench quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo amid a coaching and front-office overhaul, the Raiders’ social accounts wished the now-backup quarterback a happy birthday.

Of course, the Raiders would do this for any player who’s celebrating a birthday. They wished Tyler Hall a happy birthday on Tuesday, for example.

But still, the timing could not have been more awkward. Raiders interim coach Antonio Pierce did not take the team’s Twitter mentions into account when he made the decision to bench Jimmy G the day before the QB’s birthday — that’s for sure.
