NFL fans react to the Lions firing head coach, GM after another miserable season

Matt Patricia and Bob Quinn are out in Detroit.

The Detroit Lions let a Thanksgiving Day game against the Texans turn into a blowout with two quick fourth-quarter touchdowns to drop to 4-7 on the season. Two days later, the Lions announced that embattled head coach Matt Patricia has been relieved of his duties, and general manager Bob Quinn is also out, signaling a complete reset for the franchise.

Patricia, who served as Bill Belichick’s defensive coordinator in New England before landing his first head coaching job with the Lions, leaves the job with a career record of 13-29-1. He won six games in his first year with the Lions, but just three in 2019, and was headed for a third consecutive finish at the bottom of the NFC North. Quinn has served as the Lions’ GM since January 2016.
