NFL Draft: 10 First Round Takeaways

Fan of both college and pro football? Enjoy 10 takeaways from Thursday’s first round with both college and NFL angles.

Notre Dame saw their run of having players selected in the first round of the NFL Draft stop at two last night when after 32 selections, no former Fighting Irish players had their names called.  Night two gets started at 7 p.m. ET with rounds two and three set to go off and a few Notre Dame players likely to get selected.

That doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty to recap and takeaway from round one, however.  Let’s go over ten of them, both college and NFL related.

1. “SEC, SEC, SEC…(x5)”

We’re all aware the SEC is king when it comes to college football and last night only strengthened that standing.  15 SEC players were selected in the first round, the most ever by any conference.  Six of those selections came in the first 10 picks which was also a record.

2. Tank for Tua Works for Miami…Sort of

After trading big talent last year the Dolphins get who was seen as the clear top quarterback at this time a year ago. Tua Tagovailoa goes fifth overall but comes with health concerns, they get Austin Jackson, who many think is the start of kind of the second-tier of tackles in this draft and close the round by trading back with Green Bay and take a defensive back in Noah Igbinoghene who probably won’t be as talented of player as the DB they gave up last season in Minkah Fitzpatrick.

Next: Three and Four…
