NFL announces updated postseason roster rules

The NFL announced a few minor tweaks to its postseason roster rules on Tuesday

The Atlanta Falcons (7-9) probably aren’t headed to the Super Bowl this year, but they still have an outside shot to win the NFC South and host a playoff game. To do that, the Falcons must beat the New Orleans Saints in Week 18 and hope the Buccaneers lose to the Panthers.

Since the postseason is still on the table for Atlanta, it never hurts to know the rules. Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network shared the league’s updated postseason roster rules on Tuesday evening.

The memo, which was sent to all 32 NFL teams, included two key points of emphasis.

  1. Players who are waived on Friday or Saturday will remain on waivers until 4:00 p.m. ET on Monday afternoon.
  2. Teams playing in Saturday night playoff games can make roster transactions up until 4:00 p.m. ET on game day.

The Falcons worked out CFL wide receiver Austin Mack on Tuesday afternoon, but no signing has been reported as of yet.
