The 2023 NFL draft won’t be a huge occasion for USC football. Yes, Jordan Addison should get picked in the first round, but the Trojans won’t dominate the draft board the way they did under Pete Carroll and (decades earlier) John Robinson.
Next year, however, USC is very likely to have the No. 1 overall pick in the draft, Caleb Williams. The quarterback shows such noticeable command of the game and his surroundings that an NFL team would be crazy to pass on him with the first pick. If an NFL organization is set at quarterback, another team will surely trade up to No. 1 so that it can get its hands on what many people believe is the next great quarterback to emerge from college football.
Bruce Feldman of The Athletic wrote about Caleb Williams, underscoring the point that if NFL teams are uncertain about this year’s quarterback class in the draft, they will not want to wait or hedge their bets in 2024. Caleb is the guy:
What makes Caleb Williams so special as a prospect?
"Smart kid. Sees the field. Can make every throw," one NFL QB coach told @BruceFeldmanCFB. "Doesn’t matter if he goes to New York or Green Bay, I think he can handle every situation."https://t.co/Ie5VtULPI5
