Mets at Braves: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Jacob deGrom vs. RHP Mike Soroka

DeGrom has pitched extremely well so far this season despite still being 0-0. It’s been much of the same for the Mets when he’s on the bump, as they’ve failed to give him any sort of run support.

  • DeGrom has a 1.64 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 11 innings, allowing just four hits and two walks.
  • In 22 starts against the Braves, deGrom is 7-7 with a career ERA of only 1.90.

Soroka also has not factored into a decision yet this season, despite pitching to a strong 1.59 ERA with eight strikeouts in 11 1/3 innings.

  • Soroka is a perfect 4-0 against the Mets in his career, posting an ERA of 2.27 with 25 strikeouts in 35 2/3 innings.
  • He’s 11-2 in his career in the first half of the season with a stellar 2.66 ERA.

Prediction

Braves 5, Mets 4

Moneyline (ML)

The Mets (-128) are the road favorites in this one, primarily because deGrom is on the bump. At -1281, they’re only slight favorites, while the Braves are +115. Getting the Braves at plus money in this matchup, even with deGrom pitching, feels like a bargain.

The Mets have lost more of deGrom’s starts than they’ve won in the last three seasons, so it’s not as if their record is stellar with him pitching. I’d go with the BRAVES (+115) on the moneyline in this game.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The run line BetMGM suggests is Mets -1 (-106) and Braves +1 (-115). The Braves should be able to win this game outright, but the added benefit of getting a run with the spread is an even better proposition.

I’d bet the BRAVES +1 (-115), especially with Cespedes no longer in the mix for the Mets. That’s a big bat out of their lineup and New York has struggled against everyone except the Boston Red Sox, who they beat twice.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Over/Under is predictably low with two aces on the mound, sitting at only 8 runs. The total has gone Under in four of the Braves’ last six games this season, but it’ll go Over in this game.

Assuming deGrom doesn’t go seven-plus innings, the Mets’ bullpen will struggle to keep the Braves lineup down and give up some runs late. Bet the OVER 8 (-110).
