New York Knicks at Atlanta Hawks odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Monday’s New York Knicks at Atlanta Hawks NBA betting odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The New York Knicks (3-3) are in the Big Peach Monday to play the Atlanta Hawks (4-2) at State Farm Arena. Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Knicks-Hawks NBA betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

New York went on the road and beat an Indiana Pacers team favored by 9.5 points 106-102 Saturday. To steal an old sports adage, the Knicks just wanted it more, as they out-rebounded the Pacers 60-37 and outscored them 56-26 in the paint.

The Hawks lost 96-91 at home to the Cleveland Cavaliers their last time out. Atlanta had an off-night shooting—making just 41.2% of its field goals and 52.6% of its free throws. The Hawks fell off the cliff in the second half, scoring just 35 points.

Last season’s Knicks-Hawks meetings were explosive affairs. The Knicks won two of the three games (2-0-1 ATS) with the last two contests going to overtime and all three going Over the total by at least 35 points.

Knicks at Hawks: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Knicks 111, Hawks 108

Money line (ML)

I lean KNICKS (+230) for a half-unit since I am taking New York plus the points and betting an underdog’s money line and spread fits my long-term NBA betting strategy.

New York won last year’s season series and with two of Atlanta’s three offseason acquisitions being on the injury report I’d argue the Knicks hiring Tom Thibodeau as head coach makes them more improved year over year for this game. Until the Hawks can have consistent offense regardless of 3-point shooting and proves themselves on defense, I am not buying any Atlanta stock.

Against the spread (ATS)

This is an excellent fade the market spot with 72% of the money coming in on Atlanta, according to Pregame.com. The Knicks are 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven vs. the Hawks.

Also, New York is 3-3 outright and ATS despite playing the NBA’s toughest schedule, according to Basketball-Reference.com.

GIMME KNICKS +7.5 (-120) for 1 unit.

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS ON THE TOTAL. Part of me thinks the Knicks and Hawks will continue last year’s trend of cashing Overs since Atlanta is second in offensive efficiency and 17th in defensive efficiency but it’s puzzling that Monday’s total is projected to be lower than the previous seven games despite the recent head-to-head trends.

Furthermore, bettors know how bad New York’s offense can be yet they are 2-4 O/U this season and the Hawks have the same O/U record even though they are second in points per game.
