New York Jets rookie running back makes big impression in preseason debut

Braelon Allen had an impressive college career.

The New York Jets were already pretty set at the running back position given they have one of the best backs in the entire NFL in Breece Hall. Still, the team wanted to ensure they had some solid depth behind their superstar given the injuries he suffered last season and snagged the talented Braelon Allen in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Allen put on a show in his first preseason game on Saturday, clearly looking like the most explosive and physical running back the Jets had on the roster outside of their cemented starter. At just 20 years old Allen still has some growing to do both physically and with learning the ins and outs of the running back position. Allen averaged a whopping nine yards a carry, carrying the ball six times for 54 yards.

If Allen can continue his high level of play and show that he is as explosive as advertised, he should have a locked-in role behind Hall and see plenty of touches in relief of the starter. The sky is the limit for this 20-year-old NFL pro.
