The Philadelphia 76ers are a team that is set to undergo some big changes following one of the more disappointing seasons in recent memory following a sweep in Round 1 of the Boston Celtics. The team had high expectations following a busy offseason in the summer of 2019 and they came up short.
With a season such as this one, it brings change and Philadelphia started it by firing coach Brett Brown after seven seasons. Now, the attention goes to the roster as they look to get back on the right track.
One idea is for the Sixers to go after a guy like Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star Chris Paul who the franchise is mulling over the idea of acquiring. Bleacher Report has come up with a new trade suggestion that would get Paul to Philadelphia.
The Sixers would send Al Horford, Matisse Thybulle, Mike Scott, and the first-round pick in this draft that the Thunder owe the Sixers in exchange for Paul:
Chris Paul to Philly is the focus here, in a scenario where the 76ers keep stars Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons together (as GM Elton Brand professed they would) and finally address the playmaking void that has plagued the team for several years.
This doesn’t entirely solve the spacing crunch that results from playing Simmons and Embiid together, but Paul thrived leading an OKC offense with Steven Adams and plenty of wings with shaky shots in Oklahoma City. He could handle the challenge in Philadelphia.
Bringing in a guy like Paul would be a huge upgrade to the Sixers. He is a legitimate playmaker who can score whenever the time calls for it and he is a closer late in games as he proved for the Thunder. His presence would also help the team move Ben Simmons off the ball permanently and the pick-and-roll game between those two would be something to behold.
In terms of what Philadelphia would give up, they would probably feel a high of relief to move on from Horford’s contract as the fit between him and Joel Embiid has not worked out. The team would probably want to keep Thybulle, however, and would rather give up something else, but a team does have to give up talent to get talent. [lawrence-related id=37758,37755,37752]
