New mock draft proposes trade option for Cardinals in 1st round

This scenario is as close to ideal as the Cardinals could get.

The Arizona Cardinals currently have the eighth pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and many project them to select a top offensive line prospect or top receiver prospect.

In a new mock draft from The Athletic’s Dane Brugler, the Cardinals are one team that engages in a first-round trade, moving back four spots.

Their trade partner are the Los Vegas Raider, who move up to the eighth pick to select versatile Clemson defender Isaiah Simmons. They give up a third-round and a fifth-round pick to move up.

The Cardinals then, with the 12th pick, land Oklahoma WR CeeDee Lamb.

Reuniting Kyler Murray and Lamb? Sign me up. These players connected 65 times, including 11 touchdowns, for the Sooners in 2018. Lamb has big-time ball skills with the football IQ and route leverage downfield that reminds scouts of DeAndre Hopkins.

Lamb is the first receiver off the board. Two tackles were selected before the eighth pick — Alabama’s Jedrick Wills by the New York Giants at No. 4 and Louisville Mekhi Becton by the New York Jets in a trade up at No. 7.

If the Cardinals are in this situation, a trade back would be perfect. Lamb would be a fantastic fit and they would land a couple of extra picks. Depending on how they addressed the offensive line in free agency, they might not need a rookie to start right away, so they could land a Day 2 or Day 3 lineman they prepare for 2021.

This scenario would be almost ideal for the Cardinals.
