New mock draft has Sixers taking Santa Clara scorer Jalen Williams

A new mock draft has the Philadelphia 76ers selecting Santa Clara scorer Jalen Williams at No. 23 in the draft.

Now that the Philadelphia 76ers will have a first-round pick in the 2022 NBA draft thanks to the decision made by the Brooklyn Nets to defer the pick they acquired in the James Harden deal to 2023, it is time to look at some mock drafts and see some possible selections for Philadelphia.

The Sixers will hold the No. 23 pick in this draft and while they could trade the pick, it would be in principle before the draft and then become official after draft night, there are some pieces in the draft that fit what they need.

A mock draft performed by Yahoo! Sports has the Sixers selecting Santa Clara scorer Jalen Williams:

Williams was the best player on the court in both days of the draft combine scrimmages. He got to the basket with ease, shot the ball well and had some of the best finishes in transition. Defensively, he fought through screens to keep his man in front and was effective in help-side defense, shooting the gap for steals and tips. Last year, Josh Primo (No. 12 pick, Spurs) and Bones Hyland (No. 26, Nuggets) were the biggest surprises of the first round, and Williams could be that guy this year.

Williams averaged 18.0 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game during his junior season with the Broncos and he would help Philadelphia in terms of their need for depth. He has a bit of “dawg” in him and he is a guy who can help the Sixers find some offense for their bench unit.
