New Celtics coach Ime Udoka talks hire, plan for 2021-22 on Zolak and Bertrand

Boston’s new coach made his first appearance on New England Sports radio in that role.

New Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka made an appearance on the popular New England sports radio show “Zolak and Bertrand” Tuesday morning, talking about his new job, what he expects from the team and the players on it among several topics.

The former Brooklyn Nets assistant outlined how the hire materialized, filling in some of the blanks about the discussions with ownership mentioned by Wyc Grousbeck (“It was more about getting to know me as a person”)  and how the hiring process went down with Udoka still working as a Nets assistant in the postseason at the start of the interview process.

The Portland native also spoke on how he sees Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart as core parts of the team moving forward.
