After trading wide receiver Jerry Jeudy to the Cleveland Browns this spring, the Denver Broncos signed veteran Josh Reynolds during NFL free agency.
Coming off his best season since 2020, Reynolds will aim to help replace Jeudy in Denver’s offense this fall. Broncos coach Sean Payton said the receiver made a good initial impression this spring.
“He’s long,” Payton said in May. “He has strong hands. Another veteran receiver. I like that group, and if you study it closely, it’s big across the board, and it has speed. So there’s going to be heavy competition there … I think there’s that old saying, ‘iron sharpens iron,’ and I feel like that’s going to happen.”
Reynolds indicated that joining Payton’s offense was one of the driving factors in his decision to sign with Denver.
“It was kind of a lot,” Reynolds said. “I think the main decision was that I’ve always admired Sean Payton from afar. I was excited to see what that offense looked like.“
When asked about leaving the Lions after revitalizing his career in Detroit, Reynolds had a diplomatic response.
“[It’s] business,” the receiver said. “It’s a business, but you know, I think I’m at where I’m supposed to be at, and I’m excited.”
Reynolds has changed NFL teams four times in his career, so adjusting to a new team is nothing new for him. The biggest adjustment in Denver has been the team’s mile-high elevation above sea level.
“[A]t this point, I’ve been at a couple of teams, so a lot of it kind of carries over. Then, I would say the altitude. It’s been a little tough,” Reynolds said.
The receiver should be fully adjusted by the time training camp begins on July 26. Entering his eighth year in the league, Reynolds will look to build on his 608 receiving yards and five touchdowns from last season.
