New 49er Trent Williams once smacked Richard Sherman in the face

Trent Williams and Richard Sherman are teammates now after they got into a scuffle after a playoff game.

Trent Williams and Richard Sherman are teammates after the 49ers acquired the left tackle in a deal for a pair of draft picks. Those two haven’t always gotten along.

After the Seahawks downed Washington 24-14 in the wild card round of the 2013 playoffs, Sherman and Williams got into a scuffle as the teams greeted each other for the typical post-game niceties.

The result of their heated verbal exchange was Williams throwing an open-handed blow to Sherman’s face.

It was customary for Sherman to get into it with opponents during the height of his powers. He was the best cornerback in the NFL on the best defense in the NFL, and he wasn’t afraid to let opponents –  or anyone else within earshot – know about it.

While the two didn’t have a very good interaction after that playoff game, they quickly made up, which is good news for tranquility in the 49ers’ locker room they’ll now share.

Sherman sent out a tweet after the game that Williams had reached out to him via text message:

In 2015, the two posed for a photo together at a Nike event. Williams posted the photo on Twitter along with the message, “No people we’re not beefing lol.”

Williams and Sherman will both play integral roles for the 49ers on and off the field next season as they aim to get back to the Super Bowl for a second consecutive season. The absence of beef between the two is good news for San Francisco.
