Long live the Air Raid.

After helping to guide the Nevada Wolf Pack to back-to-back bowl games, our staff has chosen offensive coordinator Matt Mumme as its preseason coordinator of the year.

2019 proved to be a rollercoaster for Nevada, but there’s no doubt that Mumme’s pass-happy attack, led by redshirt freshman Carson Strong, improved as the year progressed. Over the team’s last five games, Strong completed 65.5% of his 200 attempts, averaged 6.8 yards per attempt and had eight touchdowns with just one interceptions. Leading wide receiver Elijah Cooks also finished with a flourish, catching 40 passes and four touchdowns in those same five games, while running back Toa Taua had 1,102 all-purpose yards after winning the conference’s freshman of the year award honors with 1,107 the year before.

Entering 2020, Nevada now sports a talented sophomore at quarterback, a durable bowling ball of a junior running back, its top two returning pass catchers from last fall and an experienced offensive line that finished just outside the top 50 nationally by sack rate allowed. If last year’s trials pay dividends, don’t be shocked if Mumme and the Wolf Pack light up scoreboards all season long.
