The Brooklyn Nets have completed the first phase of their offseason, the 2023 NBA Draft, and now, they set their sights on free-agency and the summer league. More to the point, it looks like the Nets will not have to worry about one of its highest-paid players coming back from injury too soon.
According to NetsDaily, Brooklyn guard Ben Simmons will not play in the 2023 FIBA World Cup that starts in August so that he can continue his rehab from the nerve impingement that ended his 2022-23 season prematurely in March. There were reports earlier in the offseason that Simmons was going to attempt to play for the Australian national team since his rehab is progressing according to plan.
NetsDaily also reports that this decision was something that Simmons and the Nets agreed on so it looks like both parties are in lockstep with regards to Simmons’ rehab. With that being said, it looks like Simmons should be ready to go when training camp comes around in September.
I’m told Ben Simmons will not play in FIBA World Cup in August, that he and the Nets decided it’s not worth cutting short his rehab by three weeks. Meanwhile, Nets upbeat about his prospects this season and he’s looking forward to Paris Olympics in 2024. More later.
