Brooklyn Nets center Patrick Gardner scored 13 points for Egypt in its 89-74 loss to Montenegro on Sunday. Gardner, who signed with the Nets this summer on an exhibit 10 contract, was tied for the second-leading scorer on the team with Anas Mahmoud.
Gardner played the second-most minutes for Egypt (34) and in that team, he did a little bit of everything for his squad. He scored 13 points, but it came on 3-for-12 shooting from the field and 2-of-6 from behind the three-point line.
A significant amount of Gardner’s point production came from the free-throw line as he went 5-of-7 from the charity stripe, an effort that shows how aggressive he was with the ball in his hands. Unfortunately, it was another loss for Egypt that dropped the team to an 0-2 record for the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
For Nets fans looking to see what Gardner could bring to Brooklyn, Sunday’s game was a great example of that.
