Brooklyn Nets forward Dorian Finney-Smith spent the first six-and-a-half seasons of his career with the Dallas Mavericks and for a moment there, he thought that he was with the Mavericks for the long term. However, in February, he was traded to the Nets as part of a package to bring Kyrie Irving to Dallas.
Despite the deal catching many, including Finney-Smith, by surprise, the former Florida Gator seems to have taken everything in stride. Finney-Smith, 30, came to Brooklyn was high expectations as he started right away and was looked at to be the team’s best defender and one of the team’s best shooters.
Finney-Smith saw his shooting efficiency drop due to having to play in a new system and having to get his shots in different ways than when he was playing with Luka Doncic and Jalen Brunson. However, Finney-Smith is happy that he was traded to the Nets where he has an opportunity to be part of a team looking to be a contender sooner rather than later.
Here’s more of what Finney-Smith had to say recently about his trade to Brooklyn at his annual basketball camp at Norfolk State according to Marc Davis of WTKR:
“There’s been love there (in Brooklyn). I can’t wait to get started. Last year was a little wild, my first time getting traded, but I’m happy it’s to Brooklyn. It’s going to take a lot of hard work and also, it’s going to take a lot of sacrifice and accountability to do the work when nobody else is looking.”
