The Brooklyn Nets have completed the first part of their offseason, the 2023 NBA Draft, so they are able to attend to other matters regarding their competitiveness in the near future. Some recent news suggest that the Nets may be able to exchange some of its depth at the wing position for more balance on the roster.
According to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, Brooklyn forward Dorian Finney-Smith and Royce O’Neale have been linked to the Los Angeles Lakers in the past few weeks as possible trade targets of the purple and gold. Buha’s piece was written one day before the draft and even though, per Buha, part of the trade would include the Lakers’ pick, 17th overall, it’s possible that a trade could still happen despite Los Angeles already using the pick on guard Jalen Hood-Schifino.
There have been recent reports on the Nets receiving trade inquiries into Finney-Smith and O’Neale and although a trade hasn’t happened yet, Brooklyn still has a window of being able to trade Finney-Smith and/or O’Neale by June 30th when teams can begin negotiating with free-agents. Finney-Smith and O’Neale can help the Nets win games next season, but Brooklyn has to find a way to acquire a star-level player if possible and trading one of those guys may be the best way to do it at this point.
