Nets’ Cam Johnson talks trade rumors for him, Dorian Finney-Smith

Brooklyn Nets forward Cam Johnson addressed the trade rumors surrounding him and Dorian Finney-Smith at the Vegas Summer League on Sunday.

The Brooklyn Nets have tried to keep the team competitive following the trades of James Harden, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Durant over the years. However, 1.5 seasons after trading Durant, Brooklyn realized that it needed to enter a full rebuild and started that process by trading Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks in exchange for three players and as many as five first-round picks.

While the Nets made the right move in the eyes of many in the NBA space by trading Bridges, there are still some players left on the team from when the franchise was gearing up for a potential playoff appearance. One of those players is forward Cam Johnson, someone who has had trade rumors surrounding since Bridges was dealt to the Knicks.

“I’m on the Brooklyn Nets right now, Dorian’s on the Brooklyn Nets right now,” Johnson said to the media on Sunday at the Las Vegas Summer League when asked about the rumors surrounding him and fellow forward Dorian Finney-Smith. Johnson and Finney-Smith have been linked to plenty of teams around the league looking for depth on the wing and Johnson could be out the door pretty soon.

“If something happens, something happens but that’s how we keep the main thing, the main thing,” Johnson said. “There’s plenty to work on in the meantime.” To Johnson’s credit, he is staying focused on what he can do for the Nets and until something happens, he will remember that.

For someone like Johnson, it is probably hard to move forward knowing that he could be dealt at any moment, especially when one considers that Bridges didn’t know that he was being traded to New York until the deal was done. With that being said, it’s good to know that Johnson is being a professional and is willing to do what he can for the team.
