Brooklyn Nets forward Cameron Johnson had to overcome a lot of adversity in Friday’s 115-105 win over the Boston Celtics. Even though Friday was a great day for Johnson as he was able to celebrate his 27th birthday, he didn’t have the start that he was hoping for against the Celtics.
Johnson, who ended Friday with 20 points and five rebounds, picked up three fouls within the game’s first three minutes. Those fouls forced him to sit the rest of the first quarter and stopped him from gaining a rhythm before he started. He picked up his fourth foul with 7:23 left in the second quarter and sat on the bench for the rest of the period.
Despite that nightmarish start, Johnson was able to gain his bearings in the second half as he didn’t foul out until 23.1 seconds were left in the game. Johnson scored 17 points in the second half to help Brooklyn come back from a 28-point deficit to win the game by 10 points. He spoke on how the team showed resilience by coming back from such a deficit:
“Yeah, it’s a process. It’s a fluid process. It’s something that we build upon every day. But, I think there’s a point in that first quarter, early second quarter where we looked at each other and just like we’re not going out this way. And, it kind of brought us together. The only way to get through things is to do it together and to go through it together. And, I think that resilience we showed today was big.”
