Brooklyn Nets forward Cam Johnson has been through a lot in his career ever since he came into the league as the 11th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. After being drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves, he was traded to the Phoenix Suns in the same summer and spent the next three-and-a-half seasons with the franchise before being traded to the Nets as part of the Kevin Durant trade.
After Johnson was traded to Brooklyn this past February, he quickly became a favorite of the Nets fanbase because of his ability to shoot the basketball and tendency to have engaging interviews. Johnson showed up in the playoffs, including a highlight-reel dunk on Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid, and as a result, he was rewarded with a life-changing four-year, $94.5 million contract by Brooklyn this offseason.
Currently, Johnson is playing for Team USA as he helps the squad achieve its goal of bringing home the gold. On the way to hopefully winning the ultimate prize of the 2023 FIBA World Cup, he recently spoke with Brian Lewis of the New York Post about his new contract.
Here’s what Johnson had to say about his approach following the new deal:
“No, same approach: Just get better. Get better and still feel — I think the main thing that I’ve always felt since I’ve been in the league is just to prove it. To prove it every day. And work for it every day and improve every day, and I’ll continue that mindset as long as I play.”
