After starting 6-1-1, the Nebraska soccer team finally entered the conference portion of the season. The Huskers started things off with a showdown at home against Wisconsin on Friday night. After a low-scoring match, by Nebraska standards, the Huskers ended the night with a tie, drawing to the Badgers 1-1.
Eleanor Dale again gave Nebraska a goal in the draw, scoring nation-leading number 13 just 13 minutes into the match. Dale earned her goal off an assist from junior defender Jordan Zade. However, the Huskers’ high-powered offense was tamed throughout the night, only having eight shots. This allowed Wisconsin to try and force a tie and even take the lead.
But despite the Badgers’ outshooting Nebraska, finishing with 11 shots, their equalizer didn’t occur until the 88th minute, allowing both teams to walk away with the draw.
Nebraska also saw a few historical moments in the match. It welcomed back the 2013 Big Ten Champions and even had the second-highest attendance in Barbara Hibner Stadium history, with 1,771 fans attending the match.
The Huskers are now 6-1-2 on the season and will have nearly a week of preparation for their next match. They will travel east to take on Ohio State on Thursday night. The match is set for 6 p.m. and can be viewed on the Big Ten Network.
