Ndamukong Suh picked Monday to get startlingly honest about himself on Twitter. Seemingly apropos of nothing, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle called himself out for his time with the Miami Dolphins from 2015 to 2017.
Suh, who is entering his 12th NFL season, criticized himself for dividing the team’s locker room with a bad attitude — but said that he eventually learned the value of emotional intelligence (often called EQ, for emotional quotient).
Suh, who had signed a 6-year deal worth up to $ 114.4 million ($60 million guaranteed) that was the largest ever given to a free agent defender, said when he arrived in Miami he sought to impose his will on his new team and had “zero tact.”
“If you’re not careful about how you do things, you end up being the bad guy,” he wrote. When coach Adam Gase arrived during Suh’s tenure with Miami, Suh expressed discontent and wanted to help the organization make a change — but by then, his teammates weren’t listening to him anymore.
That led Suh to self-reflection and, eventually, self-improvement. His comments on Twitter were an effort to help people understand the importance of emotional intelligence. Suh shared some interesting life lessons in a series of 11 tweets. Here’s what he said.
