Through the first half, the Golden State Warriors carried a tight five-point advantage over the New York Knicks on Wednesday at San Francisco’s Chase Center. Yet, a run in the second half pushed the Knicks to a commanding 13 point lead over the Warriors in the fourth quarter.
However, Steph Curry and the Warriors weren’t done. In the final frame, Curry scored 13 of his game-high 35 points to cut into New York’s lead. Despite the Warriors having a solid look at the end of the game, it wasn’t enough to complete the late comeback.
With just seconds remaining, Klay Thompson was able to shake free for an open mid-range jumper at the elbow as the final horn sounded.
Thompson couldn’t get his potential game-tying shot at the buzzer to fall, ending the game in favor of the Knicks, 116-114.
After holding a nine-game win streak, the Warriors have dropped back-to-back games for only the third time during the 2021-22 campaign.
Five different members of the Warriors tallied double-figures in scoring, including rookie Jonathan Kuminga. The No. 7 overall pick from the 2021 NBA draft continued his impressive stretch with 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field with five boards in 36 minutes.
