NBA News: Detroit Pistons hoping to sign Cam Johnson to offer sheet

Former UNC basketball standout Cam Johnson is expected to be a target by the Detroit Pistons.

Former North Carolina Tar Heels standout Cam Johnson could have a busy summer as NBA free agency will begin in a few weeks. The forward is among the top players at his position available as a restricted free agent and teams are already showing interest per a report.

And the Detroit Pistons are a team to keep an eye on.

According to Marc Stein, the Pistons are a team hoping to sign Johnson to an offer sheet this summer. If they do, the Brooklyn Nets will have the chance to match that offer and keep him. However, it does put the pressure on them depending on the terms of the contract.

Johnson started his career in Phoenix before being traded to Brooklyn this past year in the Kevin Durant deal. He helped the Nets reach the playoffs and the team has made it clear they want to retain him.

He did turn down a big extension offer with the Suns last season and now reports show he could get over $90M on the open market.

Johnson will be a name that keeps popping up in reports despite the Nets hoping to keep him. And he should be in line for a big payday.
