As the NBA trade deadline inches closer and closer, lots of teams around the league will be looking to improve. But at the same time, there are slated to be a good number of teams who will be seeing assets, too. That said, the Chicago Bulls seemingly find themselves somewhere in the middle.
Recent reports have indicated that the Bulls are still focused on finding a trade for Zach LaVine, but they also supposedly want to reload and remain competitive. Alex Caruso, on the other hand, who would have a ton of trade value at the deadline, is reportedly close to untouchable in trade talks.
The Bulls want to restructure things, putting them in a weird spot at the deadline, and there are some question marks surrounding DeMar DeRozan’s future with the team, too. According to Matt Moore of Action Network, NBA insiders around the league are unsure of what the Bulls with do with the veteran wing.
“As previously reported here, the Bulls continue to shut down calls for Alex Caruso, but some insiders do wonder if DeMar DeRozan on an expiring contract will have a new home by All-Star,” Moore wrote.
As noted by Moore, DeRozan is in the final year of his contract. Unless the Bulls trade him, they risk losing him for nothing this offseason, as he will become an unrestricted free agent.
That said, the Bulls have performed well as of late, and keeping DeRozan on the roster could help improve their chances of making it past the Play-In Tournament and into the playoffs.
