Over the past few years, Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future with the Milwaukee Bucks had been one of the more popular topics amongst NBA fans. Was Giannis going to leave Milwaukee for the Lakers or Warriors? Would he actually stay in Milwaukee?
That speculation had gone on for years.
But on Tuesday, the two-time MVP made his decision.
In a tweet, Antetokounmpo announced that he would be staying with the Bucks for the next five years. ESPN reported that his extension would be a full five-year, $228 million supermax with an opt out after Year 4.
When you consider today’s NBA, a superstar opting to stay with a small-market franchise is a surprise. But in Giannis’ case, we probably should have seen it coming. NBA fans were quick to point to this 2017 tweet about loyalty after the news was announced.
