There are lots of things you can say about Ben Simmons. He can’t shoot, he doesn’t play aggressively sometimes and it hurts the 76ers, he can be turn the ball over a bit much.
But one thing he absolutely is not is overrated. He’s one of the best passers in the league. He’s also one of the better finishers in the NBA at the rim. He’s one of the league’s most versatile players and, on top of that, he might win Defensive Player of the Year.
So, yeah, that dude is definitely an All-Star. And deservedly so. But you couldn’t tell that after listening to Wizards’ broadcast during Friday night’s game against the 76ers.
Wizards broadcaster Justin Kutcher absolutely ripped Simmons to shreds in a game that he wasn’t even playing in. He called Simmons “overrated” while attempting to big up Tobias Harris.

“I’ve said it before and I know I’ll take flack for it…I think Ben Simmons is one of, if not the most, overrated players in the NBA. And he’s gotten so much love and attention that people aren’t paying attention to what Tobias Harris is actually doing on the floor.”
That is quite a take, man. And it’s one Kutcher felt good enough about doubling down on.
Yep, I said that Ben Simmons is one of the most overrated plyrs in the NBA, and I stand by it. I didn’t say he was BAD, just not as good as everyone makes him out to be. GREAT defender, potential DPOY, but I think he’s made All League/All Star Teams based on hype. And..goodnight

Whew. Again, quite a take. Simmons is an imperfect player. But he’s not overrated. Takes like this make sure of that. He has plenty of value, but because he still can’t shoot he’s knocked for it.
Anyway, NBA Twitter wasn’t having it. They absolutely roasted this man and his take into oblivion.
Did he just say that Ben Simmons is the most overrated player in the league? Shame on him. This gotta be the most disturbing thing I’ve heard all year. He do realize that Simmons is the front runner for DPOY?! #ridiculous https://t.co/KGTYCjSP46

Man, that’s rough. But honestly? Kutcher brought that on himself. It is what it is.
Either way, Simmons is pretty good. No, he can’t shoot. And that’s glaring — especially in today’s NBA. But at the same time, he does just about everything else spectacularly well. And that’s all that really matters.
For Kutcher, next time he wants to give Tobias Harris some shine he should probably just say that instead of trying to rip his teammate while doing it.
